Active Directory Tools Windows Server 2012 R2

Server

Over the last few weeks one of the questions that has been raised a few times is how to get Server Manager and other tools onto Windows desktop machines, so I thought I would share that here. Microsoft has had the Remote Server Administration Tools available for Windows clients for a while, but it's only since the Windows 8 release of these clients that Server Manager was included, due to its relationship with Windows Server 2012. Since then there have been updated versions of the tools made available for Windows 8.1 and the Windows 10 Technical Preview, so today I'll show how to install them on a Windows 10 client.

Windows Server 2012 - Active Directory. Step 13 − In the next screen which shows up, there is a warning on the DNS Options tab, click OK and then select Next. Step 14 − Enter NETBIOS name and click “Next”. Step 15 − Select location of the SYSVOL, Log files and Database folders and then click Next. Step 16 − Click “Install”. Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 8.1 includes Server Manager, Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-ins, consoles, Windows PowerShell cmdlets and providers, and some command-line tools for managing roles and features that run on Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2012.

First of all you need to download the tools from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=45520 or if you need an earlier release you can select them here

Once downloaded and installed, you can manage the servers that are joined to your domain using the Windows Server tools. Here is the support matrix for Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 versions of the tools.
